Five Reasons to Have an Unplugged Wedding

An Unplugged Wedding is when you ask your guests and loved ones to turn off their phones, tablets, and other devices for the entire length of your wedding. This might not sound that glamorous to you, but let me give you five reasons you definitely need to consider having your Wedding unplugged.

Reason #1
The first and only pictures of your Wedding that would show up on social media would be shot and edited by your professional photographer.

Your loved ones are going to be so excited on your big day. There will probably be at least one of them who spams social media with their hoard of iPhone shots. These might possibly feature weird angles that create the illusion of double chins and eye bags, or rough lighting that washes out your skin. Yikes!
Ladies, do I even need to continue after this one?

Reason #2
No tablets or phones sticking out of the crowd, and becoming memorialized in your wedding pictures.

Want to get really bummed out? Just google “Wedding photos ruined by phones”.
I can’t tell you how many ceremony shots I’ve gotten with at least one phone or tablet sticking out of the crowd and disrupting the shot. It’s always during the biggest moments too.
All it takes is someone sticking their phone out in the aisle or above the heads in the row in front of them. Just one little second to disrupt an important photo.

Reason #3
Your Guests wouldn’t get distracted by other guests trying to get a shot.

Someone moving around to get a picture during the ceremony is pretty distracting and honestly, it’s easy to get annoyed when another guest blocks your view.
Sometimes, people just need an invitation to put away the phone, relax, and be reassured that your Wedding Photographer has got it all covered.

Reason #4
No guests accidentally blocking the photographer from capturing an important moment.

This one is crucial. Once a big moment is missed, it’s not like we can go back and redo.
I think it’s important to note here that every time a Wedding guest has blocked me from getting a shot, it was accidental.
I doubt anyone is savage enough to purposefully block the photographer. Having an Unplugged Wedding is just about the only way to avoid a possible situation like that happening.

Reason #5
No phones means your guests would be more present and end up remembering your day better.

There have been so many studies done on how taking pictures decreases the chance of holding onto the memory of actually being there. It’s just how our brains work.
With phones off, you’re improving the shared experience your guests will have of your wedding and strengthening the bond between you and your guests.
