I get it. It’s not everyday you get in front of a camera. You probably feel a little nervous and I know you want your session to go as perfect as possible.
Nailing your outfit choice is a big way we can up level your photos. So compiled here are a few major points I’ve picked up on as a photographer that will help us get the amazing photos you want.

Stick to the Simple

Loud colors and patterned clothes tend to distract from the main subject of your photos. The first thing we want to pop out in your pictures is your relationship and how you two interact together. Try to aim for neutral colors, and earthy tones; preferably solid colors, but minimal patterns are fine too. Now, I’m not saying you should drown out your personality completely. If the majority of your clothing is bright colored florals, don’t be afraid to incorporate a floral piece with the rest of your outfit.

Compliment Each Other

Remember your early 2000s family pictures where everyone’s wearing white t-shirts and khakis? We’ve all been there and we’re definitely not trying to recreate that (sorry mom). It’s important to have outfits that compliment each other, but don’t go as far as to match. Now, if you’re planning on wearing a white sundress, don’t be afraid to pick out a white bowtie for your honey. Or if you know your fella is gonna pick out his favorite pair of chinos to wear, grab a shawl of the same color to compliment them.

Dress Comfortably

Dressing comfortably for your Engagement Session is important. And by comfortable I mean wear what makes you feel confident. For example, if you’re not a dress kind of girl, don’t force yourself to wear one for this. You can still look classy without putting on a dress. Getting in front of a camera can feel intimidating and wearing something that you are comfortable in makes all the difference.

Choose Lightweight and Flowy Pieces

Movement in a photo has the ability to draw in a viewer’s focus and really adds to the story aspect we all subconsciously love. I already have a ton of prompts that will get you two moving around but the right outfit can add even more to your movement. Consider wearing a long, flowy skirt/dress/shirt, or styling your hair down. These simple switches can add so much more definition to your motion.

To sum it all up, here’s those tips again:

1) Stick to neutral colors and minimal patterns at most.
2) Compliment each other, but don’t go as far as to match.
3) Wear something that you feel comfortable and confident in.
4) Go for more lightweight and flowy pieces.
